The WHO has reported that over 1 million new cases of curable sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are recorded every day among teenagers and the youth.This report indicates that people between the ages of 15-49 years in our communities annually register over 376 million new cases of infections. Of these infections they made mention of four notable ones- chlamydia, gonorrhea, trichomoniasis and syphilis.
According to the figures they put out, on average approximately 1 in 25 people globally have at least one of these STIs. Others have also been reported to experience multiple infections at the same time.
The WHO in their report entreat prevention through safe sexual practices which include correct and consistent use of condoms and education on sexual health.
