Legendary Ghanaian high-life musician Paapa Yankson has passed on.


Paapa Yankson, the Legendary Ghanaian high-life musician has plenty works to his canon spanning close to four decades.Songs of his like Okukuseku, Show Your Love, Wo Yere Anaa Wo Maame and Wiase Mu Nsem are credits of his  investments in music.These songs became mega hits when released.
He was born Benjamin Paapa Kofi Yankson on June 22, 1944 at Winneba. His father, Benjamin Akono Yankson, was a reputable trumpeter with the Apam Brass Band while his mother Akua Doma, a trader, was a member of the Christ Little Band of the Methodist Church. Paapa Yankson studied in Takoradi Methodist School before he enrolled in the Ahantaman Secondary Commercial School where he studied and obtained a certificate in stenography. He got a job at the Kingsway Chemists Limited where he worked as a stenographer for five years. He later landed a job at the African Timber and Plywood Company, a subsidiary of the United African Company (UAC), at Samreboi. UAC had a band, the Big Sound Band, so he played as the lead singer while he worked as a stenographer for the company for four years.
He played an instrumental role in the setting up of music bands such as Western Diamonds, The Gold Nuggets and Carousel Seven.Paapa Yankson has more than 15 albums to his credit. In 1997 his composition, Yaaba won an award for Best Composition during the Komkomba Awards.Paapa Yankson received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2017 VGMA.
