US President-elect Donald Trump has been named Time Magazine’s Person of the Year for the second time, following his historic political comeback in 2024.
“Trump’s political rebirth is unparalleled in American history,” Time said in its announcement. The magazine highlighted his unprecedented journey, from surviving two assassination attempts to consolidating support from figures like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Elon Musk, and ultimately reclaiming the White House after losing reelection in 2020. Trump described his comeback as “72 Days of Fury.”
Trump celebrated the honor by ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange in Manhattan, accompanied by former First Lady Melania Trump, daughters Tiffany and Ivanka, and Vice President-elect JD Vance. Reflecting on the recognition, Trump remarked, “This is a tremendous honor. And I must say, Time magazine is getting this honor for the second time. I think I like it better this time, but we did a good job.”
Trump shared ambitious plans for his administration, including using the military for mass deportations, refraining from reintroducing family separation policies, and issuing pardons for January 6 Capitol rioters “in the first hour ... maybe the first nine minutes.”
Trump has now won the title twice; his first victory came in 2016 following his unexpected triumph against Hillary Clinton. Time’s Person of the Year has been awarded annually since 1927 to the individual or group deemed to have wielded the greatest influence on global affairs "for good or for ill" Former honorees include world leaders, cultural icons, and US presidents.
Trump's Time honor highlights his lasting impact on American politics and his role in determining the future of the country as he gets ready to return to the White House.
