Manchester United has named Ruben Amorim as their new head coach.

Manchester United has appointed Ruben Amorim as their new head coach. The 39-year-old Portuguese will join Sporting Lisbon on November 11, with a contract running until June 2027 and an option for an additional year.

Amorim will oversee his first match for United against Ipswich on November 24. He replaces Erik ten Hag, who was dismissed last month. Until Amorim’s arrival, Ruud van Nistelrooy will continue to manage the first team.

In a statement, the club expressed their excitement about Amorim’s appointment, which was pending work visa requirements. They highlighted his impressive track record, including winning the Primeira Liga twice with Sporting CP, the club’s first title in 19 years.

A former midfielder for Benfica and Portugal, Amorim retired in 2017 and began his managerial career at Braga two years later. He joined Sporting in March 2020, quickly becoming one of Europe’s most promising young coaches. His achievements include two Primeira Liga titles and three Taca da Liga (Portuguese League Cup) victories, twice with Sporting and once with Braga.
