The family of late Nigerian singer Onyeka Onwenu has announced that her burial will take place before the end of August 2024.
The news was shared on Tuesday, August 6, during a condolence visit from a Musical Society of Nigeria (MCSN), a renowned organization in the Nigerian music industry, at Onwenu’s residence in Ikoyi, Lagos.
Onwenu, a prominent member of the MCSN, passed away following her performance at the 80th birthday celebration of Chief Stella Okoli, owner of Emzor Pharmaceuticals.
Her sons, Abram and Tjiani, have solemnly committed to honouring their mother’s wishes by arranging her burial within the month, a decision that reflects their deep respect for her legacy.
The MCSN delegation, led by Orits Wiliki, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, conveyed their heartfelt sympathies and unwavering support to the family.
Although a specific burial date has not yet been announced, the family indicated that details will be provided in the coming days, ensuring that the community remains united in this time of loss.
Notable figures who signed the condolence register included King Sunny Ade (KSA), who wrote a heartfelt message, and Tee Mac, who pledged to perform at the service of songs. Their support and presence in this difficult time serve as a reminder of the strong bonds that unite us in the Nigerian music industry.
