Tensions between Russia and Ukraine escalated once again as Moscow declared a state of emergency in the port city of Novorossiysk, following a Ukrainian drone attack that caused significant damage and injuries.
According to Russian officials, the overnight drone strike damaged residential buildings, a grain terminal, and multiple vehicles in the region. At least five people, including two children, were injured, with one woman reportedly in serious condition.
Mayor Andrei Kravchenko shared footage of the destruction on his Telegram channel, showing shattered windows, wrecked cars, and debris-strewn apartment buildings. Additionally, Governor Veniamin Kondratyev confirmed that three storage units at the grain terminal were hit, resulting in a fire, which was later extinguished.
Declaring a state of emergency, Russian authorities have begun damage assessments and relief efforts for affected residents. Moscow has yet to announce any direct military retaliation, but the Kremlin is expected to respond firmly as tensions continue to rise.
Ukraine has not yet officially commented on the Novorossiysk attack, but its air force reported that Russia launched 183 drones and two ballistic missiles overnight, with 77 drones intercepted and 73 crashing harmlessly.
Amid these developments, President Volodymyr Zelensky renewed his call for stronger air defense support from Western allies, criticizing delays in military aid shipments. His remarks reflect Ukraine’s urgent need to bolster its defensive capabilities as Russian offensives continue.
