Life Saving drug for Coronavirus, dexamethasone is helping covid-19 patients recover.

Dexamethasone is a cheap and globally available drug that can help save the lives of people severely ill from Coronvirus. This is a major breakthrough in the fight against the global covid-19 pandemic.
The treatment with dexamethasone is up to 10 days with a £5 per patient cost.


The drug is a low dose steroid treatment and cuts the risk of death by a third for patients on ventilators while for those on oxygen it cuts deaths by a fifth.

About 19 out of 20 patients with Coronavirus recover without being admitted to the hospital. Of those who are admitted, most also recover but some may need oxygen or mechanical ventilation. These are the high risk patients dexamethasone appears to help.

The drug is already used to reduce inflammation in a range of other conditions including arthritis, asthma and some skin conditions. It appears also to help stop some of the damage that can happen when the body’s immune system goes into overdrive as it tries to fight the Coronavirus.
